VEGAN GROVERY HAUL // LIFE

Hey Guys, I filmed a vegan grocery haul this week which I uploaded onto my YouTube channel. These kinds of videos helped me massively when I was transitioning into a vegan diet as I had no idea what a typical shop was and what foods I could buy! Obviously there's foods in this video which I didn't buy that I already had such as rice/coffee/tea etc. but hopefully it helps if some of you are considering a vegan diet!

FLAMENCO FEELINGS // OOTD

Happy Monday and here we go starting another week. On the plus side, next week is only a four day working week! I'm super excited for the upcoming bank holiday and I'll be visiting my very first vegan fair in Manchester on Saturday. Has anyone ever been to one before?

I have been wanting a skirt in this style ever since Victoria Beckham brought out an absolutely stunning blue skirt in this style and I was over the moon when I saw something similar on asos. Wearing it gives me flamenco dancer style vibes and I literally can't stop spinning round in circles like I did as a kid at school. With this skirt I wanted to pair it with something simple and this knitted top from zara felt perfect for me. Walking past this top in Zara the other day, I picked it up and the thought actually came across my mind that i haven't actually seen a top like this before (or own something similar which is a shock). I love the neckline which is kind of cross-over/halterneck but its not? Also not being the hugest fan of patterns, this top has just the right amount of stripes for my daily pattern needs without it being too over baring.

THE GREY CO ORD // OOTD

Today I went for the ultimate comfortable ensemble with this co ord. The material is incredibly soft and I have left on comfort level 10000 all day long. I am also loving the diagonal line of the top, adding an interesting shape to the whole co ord. Wearing this today whilst running an extensive list of errands was a complete godsend, as paired with these AMAZING skechers, I could run round all day and feel at utter comfort. I feel as though I could lounge round allllll day in these and eat mounds of bread and pasta and still feel comfortable, unlike jeans which I try to avoid wearing at all costs and even when I do, as soon as I'm home they are straight off.

I'm currently home having some well needed chill out time and break from work. I am also contemplating filming a vegan grocery haul this week and popping it up on my very neglected YouTube channel. Thoughts?

'THAT WON'T SUIT ME' MENTALITY // LIFE

Good evening! So some reason I've had such a burst of creativity the past few days and I mostly (please don't laugh) think its down to waking up early on the weekends and making the most of the time off work. I found inspiration to write this little post as I've experienced quite a few friends or even strangers say this particular comment to me, which always seems to slightly annoy me, not at them, but at the fact society has almost made them think they have to feel that way.

I enjoy fashion. I enjoy monochrome clothes and androgenous clothes, but sometimes just cool abstract shapes. Unless i'm feeling a bit girly, then sometimes I'll enjoy wearing monochrome girly clothes. I basically wear whatever the hell I feel like wearing everyday (unless i'm at work, which even then I still mostly just wear what I usually wear everyday minus jeans). Sometimes I aim for a certain 'look' if I have a cool sort of outfit in mind but most of the time I buy clothes I personally like and then I put them on my body with other combinations of clothes I also like and then I walk around in them.

So so many countless times I've been shopping with friends and they've seen something in a shop they really love the look of and you can see them contemplating trying on or buying and they turn to me and say 'noo this won't suit me, I'll leave it.' Then some of them even go as far to say 'It would suit you, because you know, your style and stuff'. Which even further confuses the heck out of me. What I really struggle with is the mentality of: If you like something and can afford it, why don't you wear it? Then why do I have the right to 'suit' an item of clothing more than you if you really like it? If you love it, then rock that item of clothing. The only reason some people seem to think i'll suit an item of clothing more is because I just wear what I love, and I have never spared a single thought to whether something suited me and I just don't hold back. Understandably, I do get if a certain item of clothing won't suit your body type and shape as everyone is different, but this post is aimed towards the STYLE and FASHION side of an item of clothing.

I just want women to not hold themselves back in expressing themselves, and know that you will only suit what you love and wear and its a way of expressing your personality. Of course there are outfits that you cannot simply wear for work/gym blah blah but most people have 2 out of the 7 days they can wear what the heck they like! I somehow felt so compelled to write this as perfectly beautiful and lovely women I've just met off the street have struck up conversations about clothes and talking about how a certain style won't suit them and i've been utterly confused. Your style is YOU and you alone can make every decision you want with what you choose to wear. Don't let those sort of thoughts hold you back.

What are you thoughts on this?

MINIMAL SUMMER // OOTD

culottes - asos

Not gonna lie, I did feel like a bit of a Spanish dancer stepping out of the house this morning, however I am super in love with this flowy summer top! Now the temperatures have risen, Brits all over the country are more than eager to completely strip off to expose their pasty white skin to the world after around 6 months of hiding under wooly jumpers and gilets. I am super excited for summer and have so many ideas for trips and holidays that I utterly cannot decide what I want to do - almost like a kid in a candy shop feeling!

This top is perfect for keeping cool in the warmer climate, the material is naturally cooling and with it just draping off and flowing over your torso, you never feel sweaty or restricted in it. Paired with these AMAZING Celine-esque mules (which I will dedicate and entire post to soon) and my culottes, it makes an easy and minimalistic summer outfit for those of you who are like me and are not a fan of pastels, florals and paisley patterns.

SPORTS INSPIRED // OOTD

Today's ootd sports and fitness inspired, as I've been getting so much wear out of these nike leggings and skechers for exercise, I wanted to be able to style them in a more casual setting when I'm not bright red faced while sweating during attempted yoga. I am also so happy that the current heatwave has allowed non-jacket ensembles acceptable again. I have recently been loving how these harnesses have been in style, as it gives such a basic outfit a little extra uplift and something different about it! Also the one i'm wearing in this post has now gone down to £4.50 in the sale!

I also purchased these skechers last week and they feel like an absolute dream. The memory foam sole does wonders for my posture and so so handy when out walking all day as it completely cushions your feet.

Rachel

THE ASOS SUNNIES // FASHION

I find it ridiculously hard to find a real good quality pair of sunglasses. No joke but I literally buy about 4 pairs a year as I find they can really change to compliment or destroy (bit harsh) your face shape. I also am constantly replacing them due to me misplacing them or either them breaking. Of course, a lot of it is to do with my mistreating them and thinking they're invincible accessories, however here is now definitely a pair I will guard and care for to the grave. I loooove the fact that they have the green-ish tinge mirrored look to them so they stand out more than the usual mirrored sunnies and I adore the whole metal bridge trend that is currently all the rage in the sunglasses world. Best thing about these? They're £12! Now I can look directly into the sun with no regrets! (joking of course) I am also eyeing up the clear framed pair...

HOW TO DEAL WITH NEGATIVITY // LIFE

I've recently been way more absent on the blog front than I would ever like to be, and mostly this has been down to negativity. And no, this isn't from other bloggers or people on the internet or even people I know in person, as most people that I talk to and comment on here are so so lovely and i'm so lucky to have never received any sort of negativity towards me. The type of negativity i deal with all stems from my own thoughts and I personally battle huge demons every single day. I never like to tell anyone this and I've even been reluctant to post this, but I of course wanted to share some tips which have been really helping me lately, in hoping that these will at least help some of you out there who share situations with me. The kind of negative thoughts basically cripple me from even getting out of bed sometimes and it also makes it very hard for me to post on my blog, text back to friends or do any of the things I used to once enjoy. Some days are obviously worse than others, but the past few months have been particularly hard and I been working on self improvement and really trying my best to beat the negative cycle. I thought I would share just a few tips which, sound simple, but have really been helping me as of late:

1. Fuel your body with the best food for it to thrive
You wouldn't fill up your car with dirty oil that causes it to break down, so why not apply this rule to your body? When you eat junk, your body can't thrive and absorb the nutrients it so desperately needs. Also when I eat crap, i feel sluggish, fat and just a greasy slob in general which makes me feel even worse. What you put into your body is fuel and treat your body like a temple. Healthy body, healthy mind. You also only have this one body for the rest of your life, so why abuse it? I've been loading my body full of fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, wholemeal grains, potatoes, rice, beans, legumes and pulses and physically have never felt better. I've actually been eating this way for a period of time where now I don't even crave fatty, unhealthy foods, as I don't even view them as a food source anymore. I have basically been following the most amazing book linked here, and have been treating it as my complete foodie bible recently.

2. Strip it all back to a simpler life.
This is mostly why I didn't blog properly the past few months, as I needed an almost complete social media detox. I had to completely quit instagram for a few weeks as going on there and the constant comparison of my own life to all the amazing instagram model's lives can be a huge confidence blow everytime you pick up your phone. Learn to enjoy time away from scrolling through twitter and actually get out and make time to chat with friends, read a book and leave the internet alone for a while. With the internet comes all this added pressure which can sometimes be so over consuming and people forget how to actually live a non-virtual life.

3. Find something you are passionate about for you
Whilst I was using up most of my time with work, I knew i needed to do something just to simply: make me feel better. Didn't have to be much, but it had to be something that let me forget all those issues for even just an hour. I always had a curiosity about yoga and when I heard about hot yoga, I decided to join Hot Pod Yoga and attend around 3 times a week. This was probably the best decision I ever made, as it gives a sort of escape and release from all those normal woes of life for a while. On the plus side, as an avid hater of the gym, hot pod yoga is not your average, relaxing, mediation/stretching yoga, its actually one of the most intense work outs I have ever done. A guy in my class wore a heart rate monitor for one of the classes once and burnt 700 calories due to the intensity and the sweat you produce during it- which actually turns out to relax you as you've released all your tension. Obviously your thing doesn't have to be hot yoga, but its about joining an activity you may have always wanted to do and just taking the time out to focus on yourself.

4. Find the beauty in the little things
This one if especially hard if you are in a constant cloud of negativity, however i learnt that sometimes chilling out and just looking at things in a more positive light can really help your overall mood. I let myself have a soya vanilla latte every single day and its one of those little things that can just perk your mood up a little. You can find those things in maybe a phonecall with your best friend, having a chat with a stranger in a coffee shop, watching a street performer, reading a chapter of your book etc.

5. Keep an area of your personal space tidy.
When I'm having a really rough time, the space around me completely reflects it. I can't bring myself to tidy pots, clean surfaces, pick up clothes off the floor etc. and sometimes your environment being a state can also contribute to bringing you down. Make a vow with yourself that you'll at least keep one area tidy for yourself, which you can escape to if you need to. This, I can appreciate can be really difficult but makes a huge difference if its stuck to. So I usually keep my kitchen & living room tidy and will chill on my laptop and do work at the table with a clean environment around me.

I really hope some of these helped and if anyone has any suggestions feel free to leave some in the comments for people to read!

Love,

Rachel

SLOUCHED SWEATER DRESS // OOTD

sweater dress - h&m (similar) (similar)
jacket - river island
boots - carvela

Sweater dresses are, I think, completely underrated. I love the fact that I can wake up with a banging hangover, stick on a sweater dress, scrape my hair up and pop to the shops are lounge about all day feeling sorry for myself. I also love how, in this case, I can throw one on with a leather jacket and some boots for a comfort focused casual outing wear. I definitely wish I had posted this sooner as my h&m golden find is nowhere to be seen!

I'm also a great believer in the slouchier the better and you can never go wrong with going a few sizes up for the whole 'over sized' look. To me, especially in England, this beauty is an all year round garment, and for the English summer I'll definitely be carrying this in my handbag for the overcast days and teaming it with a pair of denim shorts and a good old floppy hat!
