Alternative 2016 Goals

Happy new year! For some reason I'm not a huge fan of the whole 'goals for next year' thing. I used to be, however from what I've learnt this year is that you can never be prepared for life throws at you and the extreme mental and physical challenges you may have to undertake which is never going to be part of anyones 'plan'. Therefore if you fall short on achieving said 'goals' then its like you almost failed at something, when that really isn't the case. You may have achieved so much more about yourself and your life through these challenges, but because they weren't part of the planned goals then will they even be acknowledged?

Thats why this year I've decided to write down some alternate goals. Now these aren't going to be 'reach so many followers by 2017' 'get out of bed early everyday' or 'go to the gym 3 times a week' sort of goals, because I want to most of call, encourage myself next year and not have goals which I could possibly feel really bad if I'm really busy one week and forget about them, which would in turn discourage me for the rest of the year. So here are a few guidelines on more about how I want to live my life next year, with the idea of achieving and maintaining a healthy body and mind.

1. Don't sweat the small stuff

I've changed A LOT this year. Around half way through the year I got a wake up call about my general stressing about things that don't even matter, and just becoming annoyed at small things which are so insignificant in daily life. This was making me in general, a more negative person, so I decided enough was enough and completely turned over a new leaf and just allowed myself to have more patience, and if things don't go to plan, laugh it off and don't let it get you down. I feel like i am a lot more of a calmer person since this change, and even my boyfriend has noticed and felt completely less tense around me now!

2. View food more as fuel, rather than a comfort or a way to ease boredom

Now this doesn't mean 'eat healthy all the time and never eat junk food' as this would just cause an unhappy mindset where I felt as though if i ate a packet of crisps, i would have to spend the next few hours crying over it. This is more in just altering the way I view food, and just to help my realise that my body is running off whatever i feed it, if i feed it good stuff, i will feel good and vice versa. However while still allowing myself the odd treat.. everything in moderation!

3. Make more effort to see/try new things.

This doesn't mean jumping on a plane every other month to travel the world (however i wish i could) but even going for a drive to a new part of the country I haven't visited before, or seeing a new play/film that has recently come out at the theatre or even attempting that very first spin class at the gym I've been dreading, just anything and everything i could possibly experience to live life to the full.

I hope a few of these were useful to you!

What are your goals for 2016?

Black New Years Eve

Black New year

I have 2 huge downfalls: 1. not being organised enough & 2. buying heaps of clothes on a regular basis. This year I've been all swept up in the christmas spirit that I've barely even thought about new year. Plans were organised a few months ago as a group of us have rented a house in the Lake District (if its still above water) and we're going to have drinks/board games etc. As I knew we wouldn't be going 'out out' I haven't really planned an outfit. However now with my phone bombarded with messages that the girls are dressing up, panic has set in and its too late for me!!! Even next day delivery won't help me now! So i'm going to spend the next few hours trying to find clothes which look relatively dressy together in my wardrobe full of clothes that I barely ever wear.

However i couldn't help myself and go looking online for some ideas and inspo that I could use to base my NYE outfit on, and also if any of you are hitting the shops tomorrow, most of these should be available for you to snap up! Also, I am definitely in 2 minds whether to splurge on that bloody gorgeous reiss bag!! help! I'm definitely feeling the black vampy vibe this year, what are all your plans for the new year?

Zig Zag

top & skirt - zara
faux fur stole - f&f
shoes - zara

I'm not gonna lie, but in recent months my style has definitely evolved from mostly having a wardrobe consisting of only Topshop (i still love you Topshop) and i have fallen more and more in love with Zara. This simple little co ord from the TRF section, why also by the way is now in the SALE, is such an easy, effortless outfit to throw on, but is one of those that just makes you instantly look dressed up. Matched with the fur stole and my current favourite shoes, this would be a perfect outfit if you're just popping for casual drinks for NYE and not a fan of all those metallic and sequin dresses filling up the online shopping world at the moment!

FYI, due to the warm knitted fabric of this co-ord and from the crazy weather right now, this outfit didn't even need a coat!

Also, if anyone wants to give me a hand with some camera issues I seem to be having they would be much appreciated! My photos are set on the highest quality and look completely fine when uploaded to blogger, however after enlarging them they all go blurry! Surely this is just me and I am a complete fool at using my 700d?

The 2015 Round-Up

My newsfeed is currently packed full of people doing the 'top9' posts on instagram of 2015, which inspired me to write something about this year, as it has literally been the craziest and most eye opening year I have ever had. So instead of doing the 'top92015' trend, I decided to choose 9 photos on instagram that all have a special and year-changing moment for me, and delve into the story behind each photo, which no one ever sees behind the social media mask.

1. This was at the very start of the year, where my blog was going well and I actually attended my very first fashion show in Manchester whilst still studying at uni, which was the M&S ss15 and mostly from what I remember of this was walking in a skirt and heels, freezing my socks off all the way from liverpool to manchester in the pouring rain!

2. Going for celebratory drinks with the uni girls to celebrate me (sort of) getting a graduate job. At this point in the year, it never really sank in that I would have to leave the uni bubble behind and seeing these girls every single day and have to live a completely different life.

3. This photo was taken months after the second photo. I guess in between the two nothing much really changed. My blog was growing well, I was doing well at uni, and was even going to the gym 5 times a week and felt really, really good. That all changed overnight when my appendix ruptured and I was one day away from dying. I had emergency surgery 3 weeks before my uni finals and spent 2 weeks completely bed ridden. I lost 1 and a half stone, which still to this day I have not even fully been able to put back on. This photo was taken about 3 weeks after my surgery when I finally had the strength to use my phone again and care about the outside world, where I lived in sports leggings and left the house alone for the first time in over a month to attend my exam. This was the most challenging thing I've probably had to face my whole life. Surgery and then the post surgery are some experiences I would never even wish upon my worst enemy. Now I have a huge battle scar but I'm so thankful I am still here.

4. This photo symbolises the fact that I had made it. I made it through my exams and after a month, I had made it to Thailand! This photo was taken on top of the sky bar in bangkok a few days after my boyfriend and i arrived and it had the most incredible view of the city. I spent a month in Thailand this year and it was the best experience I have ever had, which felt so much sweeter after having a very hard few months previously.

5. My boyfriend and I celebrated one year together. This photo was taken in koh phangan a few days after the full moon party. i am very grateful to always have such an amazing person by my side. Even now where we barely see each other, having him as my best friend is priceless.

6. I graduated! I can't believe I spent 3 whole years in a brand new city and had the most amazing life for such a short period of time. Even though it really didn't feel like it when i was doing 8-8 in the library everyday and eating copious amounts of tesco meal deals, I would go back and do it all again in a heart beat. i learnt so much about myself at uni and have never dedicated myself to something so much before other than my degree and I am so proud of me and all my friends for doing so well, and I've definitely made some friends for life.

7. My whole life completely changed again. I got an amazing graduate job and moved from Liverpool to Cambridge! I'm currently here 5 nights a week for work and I am loving living down south. I always get the 'you're not from round here' comments but Cambridge is a beautiful city and if anyone has any recommendations for food etc. please get in touch!

8. I decided to really help my body and mind out and go on a complete health kick. I became a vegan at the end of this year and just haven't considered looking back since. Cutting out those certain foods in my life have completely change the way I feel everyday and I feel like i've suddenly found some new lease of life! I always hated my body and felt sluggish and decided I needed to put my foot down and really look after myself before its too late.

9. I turned 22 in December and was very sad about it. I spent a whole week celebrating and went to the beautiful Titanic Hotel in Liverpool with my boyfriend, and the following week visited the Hilton spa in Manchester with the uni girls. I always felt like I should make the most of my life at 21, and for some reason still feel like i've fallen short. Even though so much happened, I've had to grow up so much this year with the operation, new job and moving house that I forget that I'm still so young. Turning 22 is just a constant reminder that even though time is still on my side to go out and travel the world and have no responsibilities, it won't be long until it'll be too late to do everything I want to do in life.

Has anyone done a similar post? I would love to read what your main milestones this year have been!

blouse - zara

Merry Christmas! Hope you've all had some real quality family time and have, like me, completely eaten myself into a full blown 3 day coma which I am currently still working on. Now, like everyone else in the country am now glued to my laptop and scouring the online web for the best Boxing Day sales.

I've already snapped up this beautiful cracked print skirt which was part of the ASOS sale along with this flowy, relaxed blouse which is perfect for this time of year to allow room for the constant food babies! I can't believe that its nearly 2016 and i definitely haven't posted on here as much as i would've liked to due to the huge life shift I've had to do this year. I'm hoping 2016 will definitely allow me to have a fresh start and allow me to plan and organise work and blogging better. However I'll write a whole 'new year goals' post very shortly.

What are all your plans for new year?

The Larsson & Jennings Watch

I cannot tell you how long I have been lusting over this watch. I remember seeing it over a year ago and making a mental 'add to basket' note however, for the amount it costs, it just seems i have prioritised different things e.g travelling, dslr, moving house etc. However you could imagine my surprise when my bladdy amazing boyfriend surprised me with this beauty for my 22nd birthday last week! I actually cried. Is that sad?

The watch itself is no disappointment in person. The quality is is amazing and gives any outfit that minimalistic, chic feel. The watch face is quite large, which i am a huge fan of, and of course you can change the length of strap with perfect ease. If you're like me and not a fan of the hyped up Michael Kors/Marc Jacobs watches or if you are looking for a luxury present for a loved one this year, this style comes in gold, rose gold, black, or silver with a black face to suit all tastes.

boots - missguided

I can't help but feel like some sort of ice queen in this outfit. This gorgeous faux fur scarf has been my absolute purchase of the month and I have been rocking it with probably every outfit since, cannot even believe I popped into my local Tesco and found this beauty!

I also feel like i am late on the bandwagon of this 'tie up front top' thing. However fear not as i have been admiring this body from missguided and I am so happy with it. Some bodys can be a bit hit and miss as sometimes I found them so tight and uncomfortable, however i could eat a big plate of pasta in this top and still have room to breathe!

I cannot believe it snowed yesterday in my home town! Somehow the weather has plummeted and I am not too sure if I'm enjoying it, or counting the days until I can visit the other side of the world again. what are you doing on this Sunday?

Autumn Room Bits

egg timer & copper candles - sainsburys
fur throw - asda
yankee candle - christmas eve

I have literally JUST moved into my house in Cambridge but I have been loving buying 'bits' and 'things' to decorate my room that of course I absolutely DO need. I thought I'd write up a little room tour as its not quite finished yet, but i'm definitely chuffed with how its coming along!

Definitely one of my favourite things in the room is the black reindeer. This is actually from a garden centre however i thought it would be a perfect christmas decoration without looking too over the top, and I'm actually debating whether to just keep it out after christmas. I tried to keep an autumn/winter theme throughout the room so matching the monochrome (of course) with the black, copper and also the splash of red from this DIVINE smelling candle from yankee candle - Christmas Eve. I'm also trying to find more and more places to put fairy lights as they're a fab addition to a room to create that cosy winter atmosphere.

I am also still deciding on how to store my make up and skincare products but as i'm currently travelling a lot, the most convenient way for me to store them is actually in a make up bag!

I am also in total love with this fur throw which is actually from GEORGE at ASDA as its beautifully soft, thick and whilst in the house i am constantly wrapped up in it. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Milo Lounge | Liverpool

Sundays are my favourite day, and sitting here on a wet, cold and dark tuesday evening has got me really missing the weekend I just had. Sundays are definitely my 'off' day. I make 0 effort with hair and make up and basically just hang about in sweats all day. This sunday, my boyfriend and I decided to go for a walk and we had no technology whatsoever with us (apart from the camera) so we could really spend some quality time chatting and catching up.

These days spending quality time with loved ones are absolutely my favourite day. I've been having a hard time lately which has all stemmed from the pressures of social media, so it was a breath of fresh air to put it all to one side. We stopped off at an amazing place called Milo Lounge down Lark Lane, Liverpool for lunch and I am bloody glad we did! First off, they have a complete separate vegan menu, and the customer service we received was faultless. I also possibly had the creamiest soya latte I have EVER had before, so much that i actually thought they had given me whole milk! I ordered a falafel, red pepper and hummous sandwich and fries which was beautiful and definitely fit the 'comfort food' cravings. Of course, they had an extensive menu for those of you who aren't vegan/veggie, so if you're ever in the area definitely check this place out!

Smart Chic

blazer - ebay
top - topshop
jeans - topshop
shoes - zara

Gooood Sunday morning! I took these photos yesterday, which you may be able to tell, in blooming storm-like weather that was battering Liverpool. I think i was outside all of 2 minutes to quickly get these shots and then my hair was all stuck to my face and i instantly resembled a drowned rat. I have been loving this Topshop crop top recently, as it can add a smart look to either a casual or dressed up occasion.

Also this outfit gave me a great opportunity to show off these Zara beauties, which I'm actually currently wearing tonnes for work these days but cannot find online anymore! I was also extremely sadden by the news in Paris yesterday, which put a whole sombre feel on this whole weekend. I feel as though when these devastating things happen, it really puts life into perspective, and how that could have been any one of us enjoying a weekend in Paris.

However, I'm spending the day lounging around, eating left over (vegan) pizza and finally travelling back down south tonight! What are you up to today?

November Wishlist

As I'm typing the title of this post, I still cannot believe its November. This has definitely been the craziest, fastest and most eventful year I've lived through to date. And here we are, just over a month away until its 2016 and i wore a blooming no-sleeved top outside today all day because the weather is still defying the odds!

These gorgeous pieces are what I've selected- and may have added to my basket- as my november wishlist pieces. Black, as always is featured very heavily, also as I believe its the time for those Christmas parties and black is always a classic look at those. And PLEASE do not get me started on the bag, I just need it in my life!

I'm A Vegan | Pancake Recipe

I finally bit the bullet the other week and yes, I became a vegan. Instantly I was thrust into a world of cuisine which I knew nothing about, and I spent hours and hours trawling the internet researching how I'll be able to have a healthy balanced diet, and still get all my vital vitamins and nutrients through this way of eating. I became vegan for a number of reasons: ethical and for personal health benefits.

My whole life i've eaten meat and dairy and never actually stopped to think, really, where does this come FROM? I knew they came from animals but after stumbling upon a few vegan videos, i began to question as to why these people would restrict their diet so much. I then watched 3 documentaries here, here and here, which really opened my eyes as to why I was eating meat and dairy. Obviously i'm not going to sit here and tell everyone to be vegan, as everyone is free to choose the way they want to live.

Secondly I also became vegan for the health benefits. A few years ago I ate tonnes of ready meals, chocolate, crisps, and never touched a healthy piece of food. There was a point last year where I hadn't eaten a piece of fruit in 6 MONTHS. I felt sluggish, fat, slow and just in general pretty crap. I cut out the ready meals and instantly felt a difference, however I still always felt like I was tired all day and that everyday I never actually was fully AWAKE. I read about how switching to a vegan diet and eating tonnes of fruit, veg, grains, nuts and seeds have really changed people's energy levels for the better, with them experiencing a whole new boost of energy everyday, with their general mood lifted throughout the day. Many vegans have also claimed to have had amazing results with the quality of their hair, skin and nails, which for me is VITAL as i am currently in a hair, skin and nails crisis.

Of course, exercise is something extra I really need to incorporate into my routine as I am becoming more and more interested in really looking after my body, however as i'm still not fully recovered from my operation (boo :( ) its going to be a slow, easing into this.

Putting all of this info together I decided to give vegan eating a go. I can't stay I'll stick to it forever as sometimes, ways of eating just don't work with certain people, however after my first week in I am really enjoying it. I look forward to eating my meals everyday, and I have bundles of energy everyday. However its still early days and i'm still new to discovering vegan alternative recipes to people's favourite foods (e.g pancakes) so if anyone has any amazing recipes send them my way! I always thought eating vegan and making vegan alternatives to 'normal' foods would be a huge pain but I've actually found it easier and more enjoyable to make vegan meals, especially these easy pancakes. I'm actually thinking of starting a 'what I ate today' series on the blog occurring weekly, as I am super nosey and love reading these for food inspo.

On Sunday I cooked up some vegan pancakes for my sister and I using:

1 cup any flour (apart from self raising)
1/8th teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 cup of almond milk
1 table spoon coconut oil

- mix all the ingredients into a bowl (apart from the coconut oil!)
-add the coconut oil to the pan and heat the pan until hot
-add the mixture
-add your favourite fruit as toppings
-it really is that simple, enjoy!

New Zara Loves

Let my introduce to you my favourite favourite beauties. For me, there are no other greater high street shoes in terms of style, quality and design than Zara shoes, with these being no exception. These beauties are super comfy, amazing quality and they receive tons of compliments when rocked with a a smart outfit.

I've been wearing these mostly for work, as I need to be able to rock the professional look, but still be able to run around all day and keep up with my fast paced job and these shoes are perfect for that. I am probably the worst girl ever at wearing heels as I literally cannot master the walk and it probably slows my walking pace by 10 times. However with these, you can't even tell that you're wearing a heel whatsoever.

Sorry I've been so quiet on the blog front lately, I've recently moved house and to a different part of the country, Cambridge! So if any of you bloggers of any recommendations for cool food/drinks/shopping places, they would be much appreciated!

top - asos
trousers - f&f

Hellooo, Sorry some of these photos are blurry, I've just got a new camera so I'm still trying to learn the ropes. I've got a canon 700d if anyone would be so kind as to give me some tips, they would be much appreciated!! Also thanks so much to the lovely commenter in my last post who helped me out with my huge photo-resizing issue, saved my life!

With autumn here and winter approaching, I really wanted a fedora hat, badly. And i have fallen in love with this black one from asos, so much so that I think i need to wear it with every outfit to give it that something extra. I have also been loving high waisted, wide legged trousers, mostly because I've been eating more recently (just telling myself its some fat to keep warm in winter) so i can eat as much as I want without feeling my clothes becoming tight and digging into my body, honestly.

On a side note I am super excited for the halloween weekend! What are everyone's plans?
